Our story
A family-run hotel.
Hildibrand is a family-run hotel in the centre of Neskaupstaður. Our connection to the building goes back long before the first guest checked in.

NESKAUPSTAÐUR · 1948
From co-operative store to hotel.
In 1948, Hildibrandur Guðröður Jónsson built new premises for the co-operative in Neskaupstaður. The general store was downstairs, with the manager's family home above. A bakery and a dairy making skyr and bottling milk were also part of the business.
Hildibrandur managed the co-operative for almost five decades before becoming head of the Icelandic Co-operative Organisation. Generations of his family worked at the co-operative and later at the hotel.
After the co-operative closed in the 1990s, the building stood empty for seven years. Hildibrandur's descendants then converted it into the hotel and restaurant you find here today.
Kaupfélagsbarinn, our ground-floor restaurant, keeps the former store's name in daily use. The building has a different purpose now, but it remains a family business.
